 The valley of Hermigua, the aboriginal territory of Mulagua, suddenly discover itself coming out of the ultimate tunnel on the road from San Sebastián. Steep slopes, covered with forests in the pre-park area, then worked out by man into innumerable bancals, open up over the central riverbed which flows unto the sea.
 Behind the black stones pebbles beach, you can admire the Teide in all its majesty, while a natural swimming-pool, craved in the rocks near the old pier, allow you to swim right away from the village. For those who prefer a more secluded place, La Caleta beach, a mere 15 mn by car, or 3/4 hour on the hiking path, offers a small bar and restaurant shaded by palm-trees.
 The village of Hermigua spreads itself over quasi the whole length of the valley, and is admistratively divided in 2 : the upper part, called "el Valle Alto" was first inhabited. Here were built between 1515 et 1520 the beautiful Santo Domingo de Guzmán church, and its convent.
The lower part, "el Valle Bajo", was founded later, and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación was erected in 1650.
 There is situated the C.I.T Rural of La Gomera, where you may find maps, guides and informations, as well as the Rural lodging booking Center Ecotural Gomera.
 In this valley, the agriculture is still in the first place, with a tird of the bancals still in use. You essentially find banana-trees (a cooperative gather every other day the stems ready to be shipped, that you may see by the side of the road), but also potatoes, calabazas, beans, vine, and many palm-trees.

 A red of hiking paths starts from the village. One of them will lead you into the heart of the Laurisilva forest in the Garajonay national park, especially dense and exhuberant there, passing by El Cedro's hamlet, where several houses has been restaured into rural lodgings.
Another one will lead you through the San Juan's Hermitage to Los Acevinos' hamlet, where today many dwellers work on the park's maintenance.
 Not to forget, the traditional music band "Los Parranderos de Hermigua" play in many local events, and the tambores y chakaras' school (drums and percusions) is quite popular with the youngsters.
