El puerto de las Nieves (Las Nieves harbour), just 1 km from the town centre, is a friendly, traditional place full of fish restaurants whose fame now extends beyond the Canary Islands themselves. It is a fisherman's haven surrounded by small, delightful beaches. Well worth a visit are the Las Nieves Chapel and the magnificent 16th century triptych by the Flemish artist Joos Van Cleve.
An impressive rock formation can be seen just in front of the imposing Tamadaba cliffs. The Canarian writer Domingo Doreste gave this geological oddity the name of " El dedo de Dios " ( the Finger of God ) for its peculiar similarity to an enormous finger pointing towards the heavens.
El Valle is one of the richest and most fertile areas on the island. There are vast fields of both traditional and tropical fruit and vegetables, as well as coffee plantations which are the pride and joy of the locals. A natural spring of medicinal water, which in years gone by was the excuse for the construction of a spa, is nowadays the site of a mineral water bottling plant.
TAMADABA Pine Forest is a stunning place with extensive areas of pine forest through which winding roads make their way and, as each corner is rounded, leave the sightseer in awe of some breathtaking views. From the peak of Tamadaba a steep, fast-falling cliff heads towards the sea some 1,500 metres below.
