CASTILLO DE LA FORTALEZA
An ethnographic museum in which some valuable aboriginal objects and tools are preserved of the original inhabitants of the Island. There are also some fine pieces of antique furniture ( 17th and 18th centuries ), while in the gardens there is a varied display of the flora most representative of the Island.
ANSITE ROCK AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
In the borough there are several archaeological sites, of which the most notable is that in Balos Ravine ( Barranco de Balos ), which is shared with Agüimes. Nevertheless, the most emblematic site is undoubtedly that of El Roque de Ansite , from whose peak - so the legend goes - the last two leaders of the aboriginal resistance leapt to their deaths rather than accept the armistice arrangements as agreed by the rest of their people with the Castilian troops.
VECINDARIO AND DOCTORAL
The main urban centres of the borough -which started out as simply accommodation centres for the people who worked in the services sector (tourism) in the south of the Island- have grown and developed into areas of modern commercial activity
