In the island, as in a miniature continent, we enjoy a varied climate due to the small surface area and the fact that the mountain range, which reaches heights above 2,000m, is close to the coast.
From sea-level to a height of 200m, the temperature maintains an average of 20º, with few variations throughout the year, and the environment is as pleasant in summer as in winter. In the north-east side of the island, from Mazo to Barlovento, the climate is gentler and fresher. In the west, from Fuencaliente to parts of Garafía, it is drier and hotter.
Above a level of 500m, temperatures are more variable and depend on the different seasons of the year. If we go above 2,000m, we may even find snow during the winter months.
Some advice: if you are looking for good weather, change sides. Normally if the east is cloudy, it will be sunny in the west, and vice versa. Equally, above the sea of clouds, at about 1,200m, you can usually find beautiful weather, unless it happens to be stormy.
The winds are usually gentle throughout the year, and the rains, thanks to its geographic situation, are more frequent than in other Canarian islands, as it is the first to receivethe Atlantic storms. This fact accounts for its rich vegetation.
